CLPE's library is at the heart of all its work. It houses a wonderful collection of books that reflects the breadth of contemporary publishing and highlights poetry, multicultural and dual language books. Newly decorated and fitted out with flexible shelving, the library is now a fantastic place to browse the best of children's publishing for all ages.

CLPE Library

CLPE’s library is an outstanding reference collection of children’s literature, and books for teachers. The collection includes picture books, fiction, non fiction, poetry, traditional stories, plays, big books, books in community languages, alphabet and counting books, CDs and DVDs. There is also access for visitors to on line and digital resources.

Specialist collections in the library include multilingual books, poetry and traditional stories. The core of the library is organised in Key Stages.

The collection of books for teachers includes a range of books about the theory and practice of education, with particular focus on language, literacy, bilingualism and children’s literature.

The library is used by teachers, teaching assistants, publishers, workers in the media, storytellers, researchers, educators, students and others.

CLPE's library is available for reference during CLPE’s opening hours. By appointment, CLPE's specialist librarian, Ann Lazim, can offer advice and information about books and resources for children and teachers. Library hours during school term time: 9.00am – 5.00pm Monday - Friday
Later appointments may be possible by arrangement. School holiday opening times will vary, contact CLPE for information.

Directions and transport

CLPE is five minutes walk from Waterloo Underground and Mainline Stations and from Southwark Underground Station on Blackfriars Road. It is situated near to the junction of Webber Street and Webber Row near Blackfriars Road; Webber Street runs down the east side of the Old Vic Theatre, which is on the corner of Waterloo Road and The Cut.
Buses: 1, 68, 171, 172, 176 and 188 on Waterloo Road. 45, 63 and 100 on Blackfriars Road. Please note that CLPE is in the congestion charge zone
